The entire city is surrounded by high walls that were constructed by the Knights of St. John in the 13 th century. Inside the walls is the Lindos Acropolis, situated on a precipice 400 meters above sea level. Its location offers a spellbinding view of the Aegean Sea and St. Paul’s Bay, the cove in which the Apostle cast anchor while on his voyage to historic Ephesus. Near the Acropolis is the marvelous Temple of Athena. If you wish, you can hire a mule to make your way up the hill. After visiting the ancient sites, we will have leisure time in Lindos Town before boarding our coach to return to Rhodes Town. In the capital, we pass through its new district and enjoy a stunning panoramic view before reaching Mt. Smith, where we will admire the settlement of Ancient Rhodes, the Temple of Apollo and Diagoras Stadium. Next, our coach will drop us off at Port d’ Amboise, which will be our starting point for our walking tour in the Medieval City of Rhodes. Our guide will take us through the northern district of the city, which was once inhabited by the Knights and their attendants. We will visit the Palace of the Knights of St. John and take a stroll along the Chevaliers’ Road, finally meeting our coach at the Marine Gate to return to our cruise ship. The tour also includes a short visit to a traditional ceramics workshop.

Alexandria
Duration: 8 hours
Alexandria is the largest port in the Arab Republic of Egypt and one of the most popular holiday resorts in the Mediterranean region. We set off on our tour, departing from the port and driving through the colorful streets of Alexandria. This drive gives us the opportunity to see the town’s beautiful architecture and ‘soak up’ its charming and nostalgic ambience. Passing by Mansheya Square, we will see the bronze statue of Mohamed Ali, the founder of Modern Egypt, mounted on his horse. Nearby is the elegant marble edifice dedicated to the Unknown Soldier, with its guards standing on both sides. A short drive from here and we will reach the Abu El Abbas Mosque, one of the most famous Islamic landmarks of Alexandria, which is characterized by its tall minarets and four domes. We will stop for a short while to take pictures of the site. Opposite the mosque is Qauit Bey Fort, which was built on the original site of Pharos, Alexandria’s lighthouse, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. You will have the chance to take photos here, as well. Our tour continues with a visit to the mysterious Catacombs of Shawgafa, a long, three-leveled burial complex that dates back to the 2 nd century AD. Our final stop is at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a unique 21 st century architectural masterpiece. A guide will take you on a tour of the building and you will have the opportunity to admire the library’s magnificent modern interior areas. Driving along the shore, you will be offered stunning, panoramic views of Alexandria, a beautiful spectacle that will remain etched in your mid forever.
Alexandria: El Alamein
Duration: 6 hours
Located in a desert plain, far from the Egyptian coastline, is the small village of El Alamein. In Arabic, Eli Alamein means ‘Two Worlds’, which is a very appropriate name for the town, considering its history and geography. In this village, in November 1942, the Allied Forces under the command of the British General Bernard Montgomery halted the advance of the Nazi Afrika Corps, who wanted to enter Alexandria via El Alamein in order to control the African Continent. The victory of the Allies in the Battle of El Alamein was a turning point in WWII and signaled the gradual defeat of the Axis Powers in North Africa, and ruined the reputation of German Field Marshall Erwin Rommel as being invincible. We will visit the War Museum to see the marvelous displays, including uniforms, weapons, and tanks, as well as reports on the strategic maneuvers of Montgomery, Rommel and other military personnel. From there, we will visit the burial site of soldiers that took part in the battle, a Citadel-like cemetery that is located on a peninsula west of the town. The image of the white tombstones in the desert sand is an extremely poignant spectacle. A plaque located in the cemetery give details about the battle and the origins of the casualties that are interred there.
Santorini - Sailing & Volcano
Duration: 3,5 hours
Description: Our cruise takes us to the active volcanic crater of Nea Kammeni isle. Sailing around the island, we have the chance to see unusual rock formations which combine black and red volcanic rock and white pumice stone. As we slowly sail towards the isles of Palea Kammeni and Nea Kammeni in a traditional tour caique, the color of the water changes from deep blue to emerald green. An unforgettable experience is our walk to the top of the volcano; one of the volcanoes still spews sulphur into the air. Our guide will take you on a journey through the history and the creation of the volcano, which gave rise to this surreal landscape and shaped the island of Santorini. The tidal wave that was produced in ancient times by the volcanic eruption was of such a great magnitude that it wiped out the powerful Minoan city of Knossos in Crete. We make a stop to swim in the warm waters surrounding the isles, which have been heated by a hot spring located on the sea floor. From the caique, we are offered a view of Fira, the capital of Santorini, which is our next stop. After a short tour of Fira, we are transported by cable car to the pier, where our cruise ship will be waiting.
Santorini - Fira & Oia Village
Duration: 3 hours
Description: While we are traveling along the Caldera rim, we are provided with a spectacular panoramic view of the Aegean Sea and the surrounding islands. The various layers of lava on the cliffside have created an astounding natural site, which tells us the story of the volcanic activity in the region. Set on the rim of the Caldera is the village of Oia, a very picturesque settlement where, accompanied by our guide, we will explore the cobblestone streets and admire the whitewashed houses with the blue shutters that remind us of the picture postcards of the Cyclades Islands. From Oia, we proceed to Fira, the capital of the island perched on the Caldera rim, opposite the volcano. The town is ideal for nonchalant strolls and relaxing at cafés while gazing at the volcanic isles of Palea Kammeni and Nea Kammeni. A short cable car ride will then take us to the pier, where we will board our cruise ship. |
