The island of Rhodes is a crossroad of two major sea routes of the Mediterranean: located in the Aegean Sea, offering easy access to the coast of the Middle East, Cyprus and Egypt. Throughout its long history, the various cultures that settled on Rhodes Island left their mark in all aspects of the island's heritage, including art, language and architecture. The Medieval Town of Rhodes is a unique amalgam of different architectural styles and eras, with most predominant the era of the Knights of St. John. The medieval town is surrounded by high defensive walls, and today is one of the few medieval cities still inhabited. Strolling through its streets, one can imagine horse hooves clapping against the cobblestones and steel swords clashing and clanging. We recommend walking in Rodini Park, perhaps the first landscaped park in the world. About 2 km away from the Old Town, you can visit part of the ancient aqueduct system, while situated 55 km from Rhodes Town is the lovely seaside resort of Lindos, which is famous for its ancient acropolis, fine sandy beach and a quaint lagoon.
